Yes my friend, I’m thrilled to announce, you’ve got a super special dog in your life.
“Yeah, he’s Supa alright!” you might be saying. But forget about some of your dog’s uncontrollables for a minute. Ok, so maybe you’ve got a Barking Buffon, an Obnoxious Persistent Puller or perhaps a Bouncing Circus dog. But let’s just put all of your dog’s misdemeanors on the backburner and behold your angelic-button-eyed-shaggy-loving-beast of a dog.
One of the great benefits of living in a dog friendly community is that you’ll always bump into a fellow dog owner eagerly welcoming a common doggy-chat. There’s always so much to talk about when it comes to our best dog friends.
Halle and I were walking along our quiet early morning neighborhood route when we crossed paths with Heidi the Border Collie – one of Halle’s many BDGF’s. The dogs greeted each other and started mingling up and about. In no time at all, both girls were taking turns inviting the other for a nice game of chase.
Dana (the owner) and I discussed the usual doggy news and of course how it’s been going with Heidi, her 1 year-old puppy. A couple of years back Dana suddenly lost her best dog friend to old age and was devastated in grief. When she finally decided that the time was right to bring another Border Collie into the family, Heidi was the chosen one.
This article is all about glorifying your best dog friend and loving all his goods, bads and in-betweens. I don’t mean you should start living to the tune of HIS rules or complying to all of your dog’s wishes at all times. Not at all. You keep the rules and boundaries in place, because in this partnership, you’re still a tad upper in the hierarchy. You’re the teacher though if you remain open, you can learn a thing or two from your four-legged companion. I want you to really look at your dog. What makes your special dog so special?
As our chat went on, Dana and I entered a nice convo about dogs and their inherent individuality.
Dana mentioned, “My other Border Collies were so different from this new little one! Heidi’s not your typical BC. She’s a very unique dog this one here.”
“Yes, absolutely she is.” I agreed! I told her that there was no other dog on this earth like Heidi, she’s the only Heidi there is.
“She’s your super special dog,” I added.
Dana felt so happy and grateful and said, “Heidi is my loving angel, a true blessing!”
Her comment put a huge smile on my face.
Your Dog’s Individual Constitution
I would like to create a parallel between humans and dogs and their magical existence for a moment. Your dog is a sole representation of his parent’s bodies during conception.
“VERY obvious Asia, I know that!” you might be saying.
Yes, I know that YOU know this but let me throw a little Ayurvedic knowledge your way. According to ancient Indian Wisdom, there’s 4 essential factors that determine your dogs’ individual constitution – basically who he really is – his authentic self if you like. Those factors are: the Season, the Time, the Emotional State and of course the Quality of the Relationship between your dog’s mom and dad. You combine all of those things together and POOF!! Your perfect dog is created.
“I understand that Ayurvedic is India’s ancient science of health and medicine. But I’m German?” } Halle
He is a very unique creation. Once you give your pup that opportunity, watch how his true self bursts out and shines. Every now and then, observe your dog when he’s being goofy, because that’s where his true self comes out. Enjoy how fun and funny he can be. It’s a great thing!
If you have a dog in your life right now, consider yourself extra lucky.
They are so much more than just pet dogs. They have their very own special traits and sweet characters that make them who they are. No one dog is fully identical to another and that makes them so precious.
There’s a reason why they’ve been tagged as ‘man’s best friend’. These furry creatures have so much love to give.
I want you to do something for me today. As soon as you have a nice quiet moment, I want you to take a few minutes and gaze at your creature and admire him from nose to tail. Observe his actions and reactions. What is he trying to tell you? Take a few minutes to do this fun exercise. I promise you’ll discover something very fun and unique from your best dog friend.
Everyday Halle expresses how special she is and we love her to bits. Try the exercise above and give us the scoop on what you’ve discovered from your super special dog in the comments below.
