Rock the House with Puppy Play Pens!

Rock the House with Puppy Play Pens!

by Vish

One of the best ways to set up a safe space for your puppy when he’s not crated, outside or under supervision is by hooking up a playpen. Indoor puppy play pens are a wonderful way to do this without getting all MacGyver.

Our Favorite Puppy Play Pens

Are you looking for a metal puppy play pen or a soft portable option? Here you go:

    1. Gotta go with the Midwest Exercise Play Pen. If you’ve read any of our other articles, you’ll know we’re kinda Midwest fanboys. But the truth is they’re just awesome when it comes to crates and pens and stuff.

Just like you – we don’t like headaches. Our don’t-fix-it-if-it-ain’t-broke mentality keeps us coming back to Midwest’s Homes for Pets. All kinds of size options and really easy setup – no tools required!

If it’s a wire pen you need you should also consider the EliteField models. They make great puppy play pens as well.

Remember – the most important thing when browsing for puppy play pens is security and stability. Both of the companies I just mentioned will provide that.

    2. Doing some online homework, we also came across the Precision Soft Puppy Play Pen which is really nice. Two size options – large and small. It’s foldable and water-resistant. This is one great looking quality play pen. If you’re looking for an attractive alternative to metal that is easily portable, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Other Puppy Play Pens We Like:

The North States Superyard model is popular but not very attractive. Functional but not necessarily the best. If you don’t want to go with our first recommendations – this one’s a fair bet. When it comes to plastic, a much better alternative is the IRIS Pen for Dogs. It looks better than the North States option and has great customer feedback.

Quick Note on Cheap Puppy Play Pens…

If you’re going to shop for puppy play pens, make sure you buy a model that will keep your dog safe and secure. Stay away from cheap puppy play pens. Expect to pay at least $30-$50 bucks for something good. Anything less might be made from cheap materials that just won’t last. What’s the use of saving a few bucks if you have to buy a replacement? Not to mention that really cheap puppy play pens are potentially dangerous for your dog.

I sincerely hope this article helps you find the right option for your pup. Remember that you can also control your dog’s space by tethering him to something solid or back-tying him to a door knob in your home. You can also get creative by setting up a gate (we use this handy box that gives us all the time to block of some spaces from our sticky dogs). The better option is going with puppy play pens.

Puppy Play Pens. They’re affordable. They’re functional. They’re safe. They get the job done.

Oh and I’m serious when I say they rock the house!

If you’re going to set up a puppy play pen, expect your puppy to go buck wild. That extra space upgrade from a typical dog crate can result in some boisterous antics, especially if you’re raising a rambunctious one. Throw in some cool toys and voila! Don’t be surprised if your little one does a bit of exuberant bouncing or pen rattling to get your attention. It’s all part of the fun!

Quick Warning – If you’re planning to use a play pen or puppy training pads, please understand how they work in order to properly housetrain your dog. You shouldn’t cover the entire available space with pads and you shouldn’t leave the potty training process up to your puppy. It’s your job to make it happen. Controlling the environment and using a safe space (like a play pen) can really speed up the housetraining process. I’ve covered all this extensively on HBD – make sure you read our related articles and download our helpful puppy potty training ebook – it’s Free!

Love puppy play pens. I’m coaching several people on skype right now with puppies. I’m amazed how often people want to let their puppy roam free after just a few short weeks.

Surely it’s different with a baby, but really, it takes time for a puppy to develop and get it too! :) Don’t just let them roam unattended. They aren’t ready for that yet just like you wouldn’t leave a 6 month old baby unattended without a baby play pen!

Two paws wayyyyyyyyyy up JT!

It’s so true … and on top of that, some people don’t even “puppy proof” their house – YIKES!
Then they wonder how come their pup is destroying everything in their house LOL.

When Halle was a young one, we took our time and went gradually. Room, by room and floor by floor.
In this case, people need to understand that puppies ARE like babies and toddlers … they need lotsa attention.

So nice to hear from you, Aloha to you and your pups!
