The Best Dog Frisbee Guarantees Maximum Energy-Burning Fun and Peaceful Movie Nights

by Asia K.

A dog Frisbee is your first secret weapon for exercising your dog in record time.

It’s second, to playing dog tug of war.

All you need is a few minutes, a nice wide open outdoor space, a good dog Frisbee and a ridiculously happy bouncy dog that can’t control his emotions at the sight of a flying device.

With a little practice, most dogs will pick up the Frisbee concept in no time. Start practicing that “retrieve” command ASAP or you’ll be burning as many calories as your dog.

Burning more human calories… That could be a good thing – wink!

Here are the top reasons why a dog Frisbee is an essential part of your must-have-dog-exercising-tool-stash:

Watch your dog do what he does best – chase! It activates and stimulates his brain and natural instinctual “gotta chase something” addiction. After a good 15 minutes of fun, all of a sudden squirrels and birds become “meh”, not so tempting!

Amazing investment – worth every single penny. I mean it. Don’t run to your dollar store and buy a flimsy plastic Frisbee. Halle can chew up a dollar Frisbee in seconds and your dog probably can too.

Excellent tool for extreme high energy dogs like Halle. Once she focuses on that baby you could put a tasty all-dressed pizza under her nose and she won’t even flinch! Now that’s focus! “Why so serious?” (Dark Knight Joker voice) Vish always jokes with her.

This one is my fave! Guaranteed peaceful movie nights! :P

We love our beasts! BUT Hey, everyone needs a “dogvacay” from time to time.

Be creative. Join in on all the fun. Find a partner and play keep-away Frisbee with your dog and watch how quickly your their focus and attention turns.

We always play that game for just a couple of minutes to “seal-the-deal” towards the end of the exercise. Halle gets so serious, it’s so funny! Sometimes she even voluntarily offers behaviors and tricks. She’ll get tricksy and start nibbling at our clothes. She’s so impatient. She’ll try anything to get that dog Frisbee back. LOL!

So Determined! Gotta love her.

Before I give you my dog Frisbee reviews I have 3 Super Vital things to say:

#1 WATER IS IMPORTANT. Bring lots of it or make sure you’re playing close to a large water source. Keep your pup super hydrated at all times.

#2 Watch out for early signs of a Dog Heat Stroke. It happens fast and it could be fatal if not treated properly. Don’t assume because your dog still has energy to chase the soft dog Frisbee that he should be fine. Don’t be silly! Play smart! Avoid hot days at all cost!!!

#3 MORE DON’TS! Don’t make it exclusive. Include the dog Frisbee into a varied exercise regime. Do not play every single day of the week. Don’t overdo it! NEVER play more than 10–20 minutes in one shot. Simple reason – dog’s don’t know when to stop and can very easily get injured. Muscle and ligament tears, sprains and sores are very common.

Get the hydration and camera ready!

Shopping around for a dog frisbee? There is NO single best dog Frisbee but there are winners. The following fantastic four are all you need. These are the dog Frisbee picks that offer versatility, optimum energy burning and a lot of ROFLs…

    1. The Chewber is our #1 choice because we’re suckas for durability and functionality. It’s a tough almost indestructible dog Frisbee. It’s got good airtime power plus it doubles as a water bowl and a tug toy. BRILLIANT! And Halle loooooooooooves it!!!

    2. I love this one too. The Chuckit Flying Squirrel has a fun design. It’s super aerodynamic and it floats and glows in the dark. C’mon. What more can you ask for from a dog Frisbee? The flying squirrel is really easy for dogs to snatch up when they run by, since it stands by itself.

    3. The most popular choice. You can’t go wrong with the Kong Flyer in terms of durability. I mean they are the creators of the famous Kong toys! A good buy but don’t expect extra air miles with this one. It performs so-so air time-wise. This is your basic tough Frisbee.

    4. Go Pro! If you want to play competition-style or you’re seriously considering joining a league then you MUST hook yourself up with a Hyperflite Jaws Disc. An amazing, amazing dog Frisbee. Guaranteed Platinum air miles status! Don’t use it as a chewtoy. Once you’re done keep it out of reach.

A dog Frisbee is a super cool exercise and dog training tool. Once your dog gets the hang of it, it’s priceless!

WHAT are you waiting for?

Let the games begin!

This is likely just me, but I worry about this kind of exercise (sudden stops) and joints. That’s not to say that we don’t play fetch with JD; don’t dare with Jasmine.

JD is actually really bad at slowing down before hand and stops so hard that one can hear a grunt. Worries me.

Jasmine can do fetching off water. We love our ChuckIt Flying Squirrel. We tried numerous frisbees before, the squirrel, IMO, beats them all.

Heya Jana,

You are not alone …

This is likely just me, but I worry about this kind of exercise (sudden stops) and joints.

I totally agree with you completely on that one.
That’s exactly what I meant in the article point #3 MORE DON’TS …

If you have a large dog like Jasmine & Halle or a Shepherd or something be very careful and mindful when playing any stop’n go games like chase with any toy or ball.
It puts a lot of pressure on their bones and joints.
We were just discussing that with our vet the other day … He told us that many dog owners don’t know about the potential risks associated to high impact games. Some just shrug it off and say that their dog loves it!
They will keep throwing the ball thinking that all is good because their dog keesp retrieving it. Only to find out later that their young dog has signs of arthritis, joint problems, hip problems and so on …

That’s why we will only play chase with her chewber for a few minutes with Halle (she does the grunts too!) and then we will play ‘keep away’ and chase HER around the park instead … OMG she loves that game! I think probably more than chase … lol … in her head she’s like “nobody can catch me” LOL!

With charlie we play a little longer because he’s so light on his back feet … but never too long where it actually tires him out!

Great point Jana :)

Yes, the squirrel IS so amazing and cute too!

Ace LOVES fetching anything. And I get sick of throwing a ball around. The problem with Frisbees is I always have those cheap plastic ones. One chomp and its done for. So I have been thinking about getting some “pro” discs for him. I’ll probably go with the Jaws discs you mentioned. We attended a disc dog class last summer and loved it. Ace was awesome! But I need to work on my throws.

Hey Lindsay,

Going with the Jaws disc is your best bet … especially if you want to take some disc dog classes … they are so much fun!

Good luck with your throws ;)

Cuddles to Ace.
