Kuranda Dog Beds

Better Than Beauty Sleep: Kuranda Dog Beds

by HalleBalleDog

We have mentioned Kuranda dog beds here on HBD in passing on a few occasions (see large dog bed post), but we thought that it was high time to explore the strengths and weaknesses of these distinctive doggy cots in detail. At first glance, it is immediately clear that Kuranda elevated beds are not your average canine snooze spots – in fact, these supportive raised cots are clearly different from traditional pet beds in almost every way imaginable.

But does that mean that a Kuranda dog bed is right for your pup?

It depends – our furry friends are individuals with their own bodily support needs and sleeping preferences, just like us! And although there are many Kurdana bed options out there to choose from, we understand that what is good for you doesn’t always jive with your pet’s preferences.

Read about the problems with traditional beds below, compare to Kuranda, and you’ll know whether or not Kurdana dog beds are suitable for your companion’s individual needs.

The Problem with Traditional Dog Beds

Most traditional pet beds are nothing more than a glorified pillow, a trait that some dogs like and many owners dislike. If you have ever walked in the door and found that your loveable companion has “redecorated” with chewed up bits and pieces of their own pet bed, then you know what we’re talking about!

And if you’re one of the many owners who have lost a dog due to bowel obstruction caused by the consumption of a foam-filled object, then you also know just how serious these durability problems can be.

Moreover, those plush traditional beds just don’t provide any spine or joint support – your dog may be just as well off sleeping on the floor. Unless your loyal pet is so attached to his or her current bed that a switch is unfathomable, it may be worth looking into an orthopedic, easy-to-clean, Kuranda chew proof dog bed for the best interests of you both.

How Kuranda Dog Beds can Solve Common Bedtime Problems

The benefits of Kuranda dog beds come from two very important design details: construction and materials.

Kuranda beds are constructed from your choice of a sturdy aluminum or poly resin frame, with short legs that keep your dog’s body off the ground – allowing valuable airflow in warm summer months while preventing contact with frigid floors in the winter. This elevated design helps older dogs get out of bed in the morning, while giving owners the chance for easy cleanup underneath.

But this innovative frame does double-duty – the sturdy, flexible vinyl or nylon fabric bedding doesn’t just wrap around the frame, it is tucked and held firmly in place inside of it! That means that there are absolutely no exposed edges, no loose threads, and nothing for your pet to grab and chew on.

That’s why retailers often refer to Kurdana dog beds as being “chew proof” instead of just “resistant”.

But your dog doesn’t care about frames – he just wants a good night sleep!

Animal shelters all over the world have discovered the durable, comfortable, and easy-to-clean properties of both the vinyl and Cordura nylon bedding options and have switched to Kurdana dog beds (or similar models) full-time. Best and perhaps most importantly of all, these fabrics are designed to provide firm but forgiving support suitable for canines with conditions like arthritis and hip dysplasia – conditions that are exasperated by many traditional pillow beds.

What is the biggest risk that you take when purchasing Kurdana dog beds?

Well, like with any new purchase, your picky canine might not like it at first or at all. Although we admittedly don’t see many Kurdana dog bed reviews that mention complete and total rejection, it is still very possible that your pet just won’t like it! Most manufacturers do not like to talk about this particular “what-if” scenario, but we are here to let you know that no bed is one-size-fits-all.

What do you think?

Have you ever tried Kurdana dog beds around the home? How did your canine like it? If not, where is your canine’s favorite spot to take a snooze right now? We want to hear about your loveable pet’s bedtime preferences! Because as awesome as Kurdana dog beds are, we know they’re not the only cool option out there!

We are fortunate enough not to have the problem of dog beds becoming a dog snack. Only when JD was little he destroyed a couple.

I’ve seen a similar product featured as a cooling bed though. That idea was attractive to me, as the air would prevent collection of heat.

Contemplated, didn’t try it yet though.

You’re lucky Jana.

Our Halle was the worst.
She has an infatuation with clothy stuff.
I think most dog’s like to be destroyers sometimes it’s part of their nature … I swear I don’t even have 1 blanket that hasn’t suffered Halle’s jaws of death LOL

I like the idea of the dog being off the floor with the Kuranda – makes them feel much more comfortable.

Jasmine is a care-taker, not a destroyer. She has fascination by clothy things too, when they are small enough she’ll bury them if she gets half a chance :-)

So we have to watch out for our gloves, sock, hats …

I love it when pups hide stuff… so friggin’ cute. Especially when dogs aren’t good at hiding stuff. When they’re good at burying – it can get tricky finding your goods!!! :P

Oh, Jasmine is VERY good at burying! Once I stood there while she was burying a found glove right in front of me. When she was done, I swear that if I didn’t know she just buried it there I wouldn’t know. LOL She is so meticulous! When done she’ll evaluate. Sometimes she’s not happy with it so she’ll dig it back up and go look for a better place.

We learned keep things put away. Our friend at the farm hasn’t learned. She’s buying new gloves weekly! LOL
