Thanks for a great article! You provide some great perspectives here that many people--even people who think about the dog/money intersection all the time--may not think of. I especially like your perspective that the food you are feeding your dog now doesn't necessarily have to be the food you feed him/her forever...you can readjust your budget regularly as you can afford it.

I do truly believe that spending more money on food now will mean less money on vet bills in the future...which is a purely practical financial perspective. Add to it the fact that your dog will simply be happier and healthier, and it's a no brainer in my book.

I have to whole heartedly agree. I've always fed my dogs a high quality diet, though I will admit in the past I've made the mistake of believing a companies' statements and not finding out the real mixture. Its certainly a research project and articles like yours make is soooo much easier for people to be in the know.

We supplement our dog's diets with healthy natural foods. I think it's a great way to stretch the budget since it can be made of up of good wholesome food we we eat in our own diet.

I think about it like this when it comes to my dog's diet. Food does effect how you feel, how you act, and long term health. Recently moving to Hawaii I've changed my diet eat fresh vegetables and fruit, grass fed beef and hormone free eggs. Cutting out the wheat, sugar and so much processed has changed everything!! I feel like a whole new person! I have to think that a wholesome diet change for dogs will do the same.

Mahalo for your posts on what to feed dogs. It's knowledge I'd like to get to every dog owner.

Aloha wags!

Thanx so much, we truly care about dogs and want to teach people
how to take care of their dog using the most natural and positive techniques.

We absolutely want to inspire and encourage dog owners to look at their dogs
in a loving, caring way.

Do you happen to have a furry companion, name and breed?
